Meet Harry Hudson: The 18-Year-Old Cycling Prodigy from Sheffield Chasing His Dreams

Harry Hudson: A Rising Star in UK Cycling
At just 18 years old, Harry Hudson from Sheffield is making waves in the cycling world as one of the most talented junior riders not only in the UK but globally. Despite growing up in an era of instant communication, Hudson is surprisingly hard to reach, preferring to focus intensely on his training and racing.
Training and Early Success
Hudson has been spending significant time in France since finishing his exams, balancing blocks of racing and training. He competed in events like the Ain Bugey Valromey Tour in early July, a prestigious race often compared to the junior Tour de France due to its high level of competition. Hudson finished 12th overall, gaining valuable experience and learning from the challenging hilly terrain.

His victory at the Super Dévoluy summit finish, a UCI race with closed roads and hilly courses, showcased his strength in mountain terrain. Hudson's journey began as a schoolboy, where he won the U16 National Hill Climb with a time that would have earned a bronze medal in the senior category.
Breakthrough and Controversy
In April, Hudson gained international acclaim by winning the U19 version of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, a classic race. However, the finish was marred by controversy when a motorbike obstructed the second-place finisher, Leander De Gendt. Hudson reflected that it would have been a very close sprint without the incident, but his performance throughout the race confirmed his potential.

Versatility and Team Support
Hudson proved he's not a one-trick pony with a dominant stage win in the Holme Moss Hill Climb and a 5th place overall in the Peaks 2-Day, competing against seniors. His solo victory at the CiCLE Classic, a 104km race in Leicestershire, demonstrated his ability to excel in technical, flat courses despite his preference for hills.
He attributes much of his success to the support from his team, Harrogate Nova Race Team, which is building a strong presence in junior racing. Hudson has enjoyed his time with the team and appreciates the opportunities they've provided.
Future Aspirations
As Hudson prepares to move into the U23 ranks, he remains focused on riding and racing at the highest level, with hopes of turning his talent into a professional career. While tight-lipped about specific plans for 2026, he draws inspiration from young stars like Matthew Brennan and Josh Tarling, emphasizing the importance of the journey over the destination.
