Thousands of staff are set to benefit from improved pay and new support policies 👏
Key Highlights:
- Tesco is increasing hourly pay for store and warehouse staff by 5.1% from March 29
- National rates will rise to ÂŁ13.28, with London workers earning ÂŁ14.55 per hour
- The pay boost comes ahead of April’s new minimum and living wage changes
- Tesco rivals, including Aldi, Lidl and Sainsbury’s, have also raised wages recently
- Jobseekers can apply online for store, warehouse, delivery, and head office roles
Workers at Britain’s largest supermarket are set for a pay boost from the end of March.
It comes as retailer Tesco ramps up wages in a move that could benefit both existing staff and jobseekers looking for better-paid retail roles.
From Sunday, March 29, hourly pay for store staff and employees at online fulfilment centres will rise by 5.1% to ÂŁ13.28.
The increase forms part of a ÂŁ200 million investment in pay and comes just ahead of changes to the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage in April.

For workers inside the M25, the London allowance will also increase to ÂŁ1.27 per hour, taking total pay to ÂŁ14.55 an hour. That keeps Tesco comfortably ahead of the new ÂŁ12.71 minimum wage for workers aged 21 and over.
The pay rise reflects intensifying competition across the supermarket sector. Rivals including Sainsbury's, Lidl and Aldi have all announced wage increases in recent weeks, with Aldi set to offer the highest base rate among major grocers from April.
As well as higher pay, Tesco has signalled wider improvements to staff support. The retailer plans to introduce a new domestic abuse policy later this year, including up to three days of paid leave for affected employees, a move welcomed by retail union Usdaw.
Why it matters for jobseekers
For those considering a move into retail or warehouse work, the latest pay rise means Tesco roles remain among the more competitive options on the high street.
With thousands of employees across stores, distribution centres and delivery operations, the company regularly recruits for a wide range of positions.
The timing is also significant. As supermarkets compete to attract and retain staff, higher wages and improved benefits could make roles more appealing, particularly for those seeking stable, local employment.
How to apply for jobs at Tesco
Applicants can search by location, job type or hours, making it easier to find opportunities close to home in Yorkshire and beyond.
The application process usually involves creating an online profile, submitting a CV and completing a short assessment tailored to the role.
For in-store roles, previous retail experience can help but is not always required, as Tesco provides on-the-job training. Flexibility with shifts, including evenings and weekends, can also improve your chances of success.
