Tim Campbell: The Apprentice Winner's Journey Nearly 20 Years Later

Tim Campbell MBE, the first winner of The Apprentice, shares his remarkable career story and insights since winning the show nearly two decades ago.
What was your first job?
My first job was working in a second-hand shop in East London. It wasn’t glamorous, but it taught me the value of hard work and earning my own money.
What was your first role in the City?
I started as a Tube station assistant before joining the Transport for London graduate scheme. This experience highlighted the importance of customer service and resilience.
When did you know you wanted to build a career in business?
After winning The Apprentice, I realized the vast possibilities in business. Working for AMS (Amstrad) ignited my passion as I witnessed how strategy transforms ideas into reality.
What’s one thing you love about the City of London?
The energy is infectious. The City is where ambition and opportunity collide, creating our own version of the American Dream.
And one thing you would change?
I would address the lack of diversity in thought, background, and gender, particularly in senior roles. Unlocking the potential of women and ethnic minorities is crucial for economic growth.
What’s been your proudest moment?
Starting the Bright Ideas Trust, which has raised millions for start-ups run by young entrepreneurs from underserved groups, stands as my proudest achievement.
Are you optimistic for the year ahead?
Absolutely! I see challenges as opportunities. My partnership with Gina Miller at Moneyshe aims to transform financial literacy, empowering women to break free from financial dependency.
Where’s home during the week?
I live on the East London/Essex border, providing easy access to the City while being close to Epping Forest for relaxation.
