Pathway to Success
Twenty-three residents are proud to be on the pathway to a successful career after completing the Step into the NHS course at the Millennium Cultural Centre.
Diverse Career Opportunities
Roles include those in customer service, business administration, healthcare support, and laboratory technician. This initiative is delivered by the NHS in partnership with Get Oldham Working, a free council service aimed at helping people find work and training. Now in its fifth year, the program was held at the Featherstall Road centre.
Course Curriculum
Participants learn about health and safety, wellbeing, equality, diversity, and NHS values, as well as communication and teamwork.
Success Stories
Cheryl Bates, Special Project Lead for Get Oldham Working, stated, "This course has seen people go onto midwifery college and pursue careers in nursing. It gives people an insight into what it's like to work for the NHS."
Participant Experiences
- Niaz Ahmed, a father-of-four, expressed, "I have made lots of friends... I want to be a support worker for the NHS, a driver, or a porter."
- Chinwe Umenyi shared, "I would really recommend it... this has given me confidence."
- Tania Tamba said, "This programme is so nice, and I have learned new skills... I am now progressing onto a nursing associate programme."
Community Support
Cllr Fida Hussain, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, emphasized the invaluable support provided by Get Oldham Working, stating, "It’s so uplifting to hear how this course has helped people realize their potential."
