UK Maritime Sector Gets £1.2M Boost to Attract Future Seafarers Through 2029

The Maritime Educational Foundation (MEF) has committed £1.2 million to extend the national Careers at Sea awareness campaign, ensuring its operation through 2029. This significant investment aims to secure the future of the campaign, titled There’s always more to sea, and expand its efforts to attract new talent to the maritime industry.

Approved by the MEF’s trustees, the funding will provide £400,000 per year starting in autumn 2026, which marks the third year of the campaign. This long-term financial support will enable the initiative to broaden its reach and maintain year-round visibility across the UK.

With this investment, the Careers at Sea campaign plans to implement high-impact outdoor advertising, including placements at major cultural and sporting events. Additionally, the campaign will strengthen its digital strategy by increasing advertising spend and expanding audience reach on key online platforms. These efforts are designed to highlight the importance of the maritime sector and attract a diverse range of potential recruits.
