Get Involved in Scottish Careers Week

West Lothian employers are being urged to participate in Scottish Careers Week, scheduled from November 10-14. This campaign, coordinated by Skills Development Scotland (SDS), aims to highlight diverse industries, career paths, and opportunities across Scotland, with support available for people of all ages to realize their potential.

Events and Activities Across the Region

Under the banner 'Shape the Future', this year's initiative builds on the success of the previous year, which saw 190 schools, 290 events, and over 800 employers involved nationwide. In Lanarkshire, SDS and partners—including career support services, local employers, learning providers, and employability groups—will host activities in schools and community venues. These include careers fairs and online information sessions designed for all age groups.

How Employers Can Contribute

Local businesses are encouraged to showcase their industries and highlight career opportunities by hosting events, engaging in partnership activities, or using the Marketplace tool on the My World of Work website. This online platform allows schools and colleges to access employer-posted opportunities such as workshops, talks, workplace visits, or placements.

Ministerial Support and Economic Impact

Higher and Further Education Minister Ben Macpherson emphasized the importance of the week, stating it helps individuals achieve career goals in an ever-changing world. He noted the benefits to individuals, employers, communities, and the economy. Additionally, Developing the Young Workforce will be involved in local activities to connect employers with education.
