Unlock Your Future: How Worcestershire's Career Event Empowered Hundreds of Young People

The first-ever Careers Worcestershire event was a resounding success, with hundreds of young people and their families participating across hubs in Worcester, Redditch, Kidderminster, Bromsgrove, and Droitwich from August 25 to 31. Organized by Worcestershire County Council, this initiative provided direct access to practical support for planning next steps in careers and education.

Activities and Support Offered

Young attendees engaged in a variety of activities, including career advice clinics with Worcestershire Apprenticeships, an NHS recruitment drive, Skills Boot camp sessions, and CV workshops. They also enjoyed giveaways and opportunities to meet with advisors for personalized guidance.

Inclusivity and Special Needs Support

To support young people facing additional needs, the Worcester Hub collaborated with The King's Trust, a national youth charity, ensuring that the event was accessible and beneficial for all participants.

Leadership and Community Impact

Worcestershire County Councillor Allan Amos, cabinet member for business and skills, visited the event and emphasized its value: "The work Careers Worcs does is invaluable, giving young adults the support and guidance that every person in the country should be able to have in order to gain employment and strengthen the economic growth in Worcestershire."

Careers Worcs offers free, year-round advice for 16 to 24-year-olds on weekdays from 9am to 4pm, providing careers, education, and training support as part of the county council's Skills and Employability Service.

Coun Amos added, "This is exactly the sort of thing I am proud to support, it's putting Worcestershire residents first and giving them the confidence to succeed and seek employment in Worcestershire."

Future Events and Ongoing Success

A free event for school students with Education Health Care Plans (EHCP) from years nine to 13 is scheduled for October 7, focusing on post-16 education, training, and employment options, with continued support from Careers Worcs.

The program has been successful over the past three years, with plans to repeat the event from August 23 to 30, 2026. Charlotte McCaughtrie, programme manager for Careers Worcestershire, highlighted the achievement: "Every day that our hubs have been open in the past year we have seen the team help a young person enter employment every working day—this is an amazing achievement. Careers Worcs is about creating Worcestershire's future workforce, and this event has highlighted the positive impact our hubs can have in helping young people progress and succeed."
