Unlock Your Future: HS2's Construction Event Inspires Young Minds to Build Careers in Engineering

HS2's construction partner, EKFB, is hosting its third annual schools' event in Buckinghamshire, offering a unique opportunity for local students to explore careers in construction and engineering. Making Tracks into Construction will welcome up to 2,000 students to a massive construction site near Bicester from September 16 to 20, 2025.
Interactive Exhibits and Hands-On Learning
With 25 exhibits from HS2's supply chain partners like Flannery, GAP, and Ferrovial Construction, students can engage with experts in fields such as geology and safety. They'll get to drive articulated dumper trucks on simulators and tackle various construction challenges, making learning fun and practical.
Pathways to Careers
EKFB, a joint venture of Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction, and BAM Nuttall, is building a 50-mile section of HS2. This event aligns with the Gatsby Benchmarks for careers guidance, providing a solid start to the academic year. It highlights over 180 job types in construction, showing it's not just about hard hats and machinery.
Limited Spots Available
Only four 90-minute slots remain, ideal for students interested in apprenticeships and careers in engineering. Available dates include September 16 at 9:30, September 17 at 9:30, September 19 at 11:00, and a tailored session for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Inspiring the Next Generation
Victoria Hingley, EKFB's Skills, Employment & Education Coordinator, notes the event's growth from 160 students in 2023 to 2,000 this year. In 2025, marking the 200th anniversary of the modern railway, the goal is to inspire diverse careers in building Britain's high-speed railway.
Community Involvement
EKFB encourages local construction companies to participate, showcasing real-world work settings to give young people a fresh perspective. For bookings, teachers can contact earlycareers@ekfb.com, with options for coach transfers and support.
