Insight into NHS Careers Event
Over 140 students from local high schools and colleges aged 14-18 gathered at the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital for the inaugural Insight into NHS Careers event. Hosted by the widening participation team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, the event showcased a variety of clinical and non-clinical roles within the NHS.
Career Marketplace
The event featured a career marketplace, allowing students to engage directly with staff across different departments. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and gather insights about pursuing a career in healthcare.

Student Experiences
Vi Tran, a 16-year-old student, expressed her enthusiasm: “I’ve always had a strong interest in medicine but I wasn’t sure what pathway to take. The staff have been lovely, and I’ve met new people and learnt a lot.”
Expert Panels
Throughout the day, four expert panels were held, featuring professionals from Allied Health, nursing and midwifery, medicine, and broader healthcare sectors. These panels provided students with comprehensive insights and opened the floor for Q&A sessions.
Future Opportunities
Maxine Griffiths, the widening participation manager and apprenticeship lead, stated: “We have lots of career opportunities for young people at the Trust, including apprenticeships, work experience, and volunteering. I hope this event inspires them to take that first step towards becoming part of our future workforce.”
