Unlocking Future Careers: Grimsby Event Empowers Young People and Parents

Major Opportunities for Young Careers

Over 100 young people and their parents gathered at the Humber Royal in Grimsby for a significant careers event this week. The event showcased post-16 options like apprenticeships and colleges, featuring over 30 stalls from industry experts in sectors such as engineering, renewables, teaching, and the Royal Air Force.

Networking and Insights

The event provided more than just job opportunities; it was an invaluable chance for networking and gaining insights into future career paths. A student from Healing Academy remarked, "With more than just one service, we can get a proper insight into what it’s like to go into the job role."

A parent attending echoed this sentiment, stating, "It’s really good having things like this for parents, it gives us the opportunity to see where the children can progress to."

Importance of Community Events

Helena Gollings from the Grimsby Institute emphasized the importance of such events for the community, stating that while young people often get career days in schools, parents rarely have the chance to attend.

Positive Employment Figures

Organized by North East Lincolnshire Council and supported by The Greater Lincolnshire Careers Hub, the event comes at a time when unemployment in North East Lincolnshire is lower than the regional average, with gross annual earnings for full-time employees expected to rise by 6.9% in 2024.

Future Job Projections

With a focus on renewable energy and decarbonisation, thousands of jobs are predicted to be available in the coming decade. Mark Riley, Project Controls Lead at Phillips 66, highlighted the immense opportunities for skills growth and investment in the region, stating that the area will require over 12,000 new workers for construction projects.

Upcoming Events

Women in North East Lincolnshire will have another opportunity to explore local job prospects at the Women into Manufacturing and Engineering (WIME) event on March 27th at the Humber Royal Hotel. This free event is open to the public, targeting women considering retraining and young girls with their parents.
