A groundbreaking partnership between NK Motors and Brackenfield School in Derbyshire is transforming career prospects for SEND students, offering them a unique glimpse into the automotive industry.

The collaboration began when NK Motors’ dealer principal, Simon Murdock, met Helen Diggle, the school’s transition and employment manager, at a careers fair. Recognizing the critical need for employer engagement, NK Motors developed a three-week programme designed to build confidence and highlight diverse opportunities in automotive careers.

Inspiring Through Personal Journeys

Simon launched the initiative with a visit to the school, sharing his own career path. He emphasized that traditional academic routes aren’t the only way to success, encouraging students to “dream big” and adopt a positive mindset. His message resonated deeply, reminding students that fulfilling careers exist beyond conventional education.

Hands-On Experience at the Dealership

Fifteen students visited NK Motors’ Chilwell dealership for a behind-the-scenes tour, interacting with staff across sales, service, and support roles. This immersive experience provided a clear understanding of the teamwork and skills required in a modern automotive business.

Creative Expression and Recognition

The programme culminated in a “Future Career” drawing competition, where students illustrated their aspirations or things that make them happy. The entries were so impressive that Simon selected four winners, celebrating their creativity and ambition.
