About us

At GFS, we power eCommerce delivery through smart, tech-driven logistics solutions. Our multi-carrier platform gives businesses a simpler, more flexible way to ship, track, and manage parcels across the UK and worldwide.

We’re proud to support a wide range of retailers, helping them reach more customers and deliver a seamless experience every time. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for motivated people who want to be part of a fast-paced, customer-focused business where their ideas and impact really matter.

The role

As National Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for winning and implementing new domestic and international business in line with our new business strategy. You will manage the full sales cycle, from structured prospecting and opportunity development through to implementation, while delivering agreed sales, revenue, growth and margin targets.

This field-based role is focused on the Northwest of England and is ideally suited to someone based in Manchester, Warrington, Liverpool or the surrounding areas. You will build a genuinely qualified pipeline, develop a detailed understanding of prospective customers and their technology and despatch infrastructure, and work with internal specialists to create the right GFS solution.

As a senior member of the New Business Sales team, you will also contribute market intelligence and commercial insight, build strong relationships across the business and role-model a professional, collaborative approach.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering domestic and international new business in line with agreed sales, revenue, growth and margin targets.
  • Building and maintaining a genuinely qualified pipeline through structured prospecting, customer appointments and agreed channel or vertical-market activity.
  • Winning new business accounts and maximising the available revenue and margin mix within each opportunity.
  • Managing the full sales cycle from initial contact and proposal development through to implementation.
  • Developing a detailed understanding of prospective customers, their suppliers, peer groups and associated companies to identify further opportunities.
  • Understanding each customer’s technology and despatch infrastructure and working with relevant colleagues to tailor the most appropriate GFS solution.
  • Planning and managing the sales activity and call cycle needed to achieve agreed performance targets.
  • Maintaining timely and accurate customer, opportunity and sales activity information within the CRM system.
  • Providing regular business development updates covering target achievement, activity, pipeline conversion, market demand, risks and new opportunities.
  • Monitoring customer performance, satisfaction, service demand and risk, escalating issues and agreeing corrective action where required.
  • Contributing market intelligence, sales insight and commercial interpretation to the wider commercial strategy.
  • Building strong, constructive relationships across Commercial, Operations, Finance, People, Marketing and Training.
  • Acting as a senior salesperson and positive role model, taking ownership of personal performance, development and the quality of the sales experience.

What we are looking for

  • At least 3 to 5 years’ successful sales experience in parcel delivery solutions.
  • Experience within the logistics, parcel, eCommerce or carrier-related market.
  • Proven ability to acquire and implement new business while achieving sales, revenue and margin targets.
  • Strong business and commercial acumen, including an understanding of customer and carrier economics.
  • Experience planning and managing an ongoing sales activity programme and a genuinely qualified pipeline.
  • Ability to identify, develop and drive new business opportunities, involving internal specialists where required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation and negotiation skills, with confidence engaging at all levels.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, CRM systems and relevant sales technology.
  • A results-focused, energetic and self-motivated approach, with strong organisation, accountability and sound judgement.
  • A collaborative and approachable style, with a commitment to learning and continuous improvement.
  • Experience developing business within defined channels or vertical markets. (desirable)
  • Demonstrable success in building and strategically managing complex customer relationships (desirable)
