Head of Finance

Eden Scott is delighted to be supporting Mackie’s of Scotland to appoint a strategic Head of Finance. Reporting to Stuart Common, Managing Director you will play a key role within the senior leadership team.

Mackie’s of Scotland is a fifth generation family business that has grown from its origins as a dairy farm in 1912 at Westertown Farm in Aberdeenshire into one of Scotland’s best known food brands. The company produces all its ice cream and chocolate on the farm using fresh milk from its own herd, which has helped establish its traditional ice cream as Scotland’s favourite. Sustainability is central to the way Mackie’s operates. The farm generates more than twice the energy it consumes through a combination of wind turbines, solar power and biomass heating systems. This approach supports the company’s ambition to become the greenest food manufacturer in Britain.

Last year Mackie’s recorded their highest-ever turnover of £24.8million for the financial year ending May 2025. This represented a 11% year-on-year increase, alongside a 3% rise in profits over the course of the 12 months.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the overall business strategy as part of the senior leadership team
• Provide robust financial insight to support commercial decision making
• Lead annual budgeting and reforecasting processes
• Develop long-term financial planning models
• Deliver investment appraisals and support capital allocation decisions
• Identify and drive productivity, margin and cost optimisation initiatives
• Produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts
• Manage cashflow, working capital and funding facilities
• Ensure appropriate financial governance across the business
• Oversee tax compliance and liaison with external advisors
• Manage year-end processes and external audit
• Manage external IT suppliers and service providers
• Lead, develop and support the Finance team.
• Build strong relationships across operational commercial functions.

Experience Required:

• Senior finance leadership experience, ideally within a manufacturing or FMCG environment
• Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
• Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting and working capital management
• Experience managing a finance team and professional external advisors
• Exceptional leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growing business environment
