Group Head of Technical
Food Manufacturing
West Midlands
If you walked into a Technical function tomorrow with a blank sheet of paper, what would you do?
This is an independently owned food manufacturing business going through a significant period of change, and Technical is going to play a big part in what comes next.
They’re looking for a Group Head of Technical who can take a fresh look at how things are done, set a clear direction and build a Technical function that is ready for the next stage of the business.
You’ll lead Technical across a multi-site operation, with responsibility spanning site Technical teams, Quality, Hygiene and Technical Services. You’ll own the strategy, KPIs, audit readiness and customer relationships, but this absolutely isn’t a role to lead from behind a desk.
You’ll need your boots on.
A huge part of the opportunity is people. There’s plenty of experience across the business and some long-serving teams who know their sites inside out. You’ll spend time in the factories, understand what works, challenge what could work better and bring people with you as the Technical function evolves.
You’ll also have genuine influence at the top table.
This is an independently owned business, so things work differently to a large corporate environment. You’ll need to be commercially minded, pragmatic and confident enough to have difficult conversations when necessary, while building strong relationships with owners, Operations and the wider leadership team.
There’s plenty technically to get your teeth into too. BRCGS, retailer standards, supplier assurance, hygiene, legal compliance and customer relationships all sit within the remit, alongside developing the people and structure around you.
They’re looking for someone who has led Technical within food manufacturing before and can point to a time when they’ve genuinely moved something forward. That could be a function, a site, a team, a set of standards or a wider transformation programme.
You don’t need to arrive with a 100-page strategy.
You do need the experience to set the direction, the personality to bring people with you and the energy to make it happen.
If that sounds like the kind of challenge you enjoy, let’s have a confidential conversation.
