I'm partnering with a thriving Midlands organisation to recruit a Financial Controller into a highly visible role that sits at the centre of both financial reporting and commercial finance.
Reporting directly to the Group Head of Finance, this position offers the opportunity to act as a genuine second-in-command, combining strong technical accounting and financial control responsibilities with meaningful involvement in business performance, strategic decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
The Opportunity
You'll take ownership of the month-end and year-end reporting cycle, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely and insightful financial information. Alongside this, you'll play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, business planning and performance analysis, helping senior stakeholders understand the financial drivers of the business and supporting informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the preparation and review of monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting
• Ensure strong financial controls, balance sheet integrity and compliance with accounting standards and internal policies
• Support the delivery of year-end statutory accounts and act as a key contact for external auditors
• Drive budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes across the business
• Provide meaningful financial analysis and commercial insight to support operational and strategic decision-making
• Partner with senior stakeholders across operations, supply chain and commercial teams to improve performance and profitability
• Manage cash flow forecasting and support working capital optimisation initiatives
• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, controls and systems, including ERP enhancements
• Lead, coach and develop a small finance team
• Support tax, VAT and other statutory compliance requirements
About You
• ACA or ACCA qualified, ideally trained within practice or possessing a strong technical accounting background
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, controls and statutory accounting requirements
• Keen to combine technical expertise with commercial finance and business partnering responsibilities
• Able to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Proactive, curious and confident in challenging assumptions and driving improvements
• Strong analytical capability with advanced Excel and systems skills
• Previous experience managing or mentoring junior team members would be advantageous
What's on Offer
• £60,000 - £70,000 plus competitive benefits package
• Direct exposure to senior leadership and key business decisions
• A genuinely broad role spanning both technical and commercial finance
• The opportunity to shape processes, influence performance and drive improvements
• Clear progression potential within a growing and evolving organisation
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong accountant who wants to move beyond pure reporting and controls, gaining broader commercial exposure while continuing to build on a solid financial accounting foundation.
