Goldsmiths, University of London, is breaking new ground this summer with five fully online degrees designed to offer unrivalled flexibility, a dynamic skillset, and excellent career prospects. These courses span tech, psychology, and children's literature, with one—the MSc AI and Creative Practice—believed to be among the first postgraduate degrees globally to merge artificial intelligence with the arts.
Why Digital-First?
The online format opens up Goldsmiths' world-class education to those who might not have had the opportunity before, such as full-time workers, people with disabilities, carers, or students who can't afford to live near campus. Relaxed entry requirements also welcome students from all backgrounds, including those with no prior coding experience for the Foundation in Computer Science.
The Courses
- Artificial Intelligence and Creative Practice (MSc/PGDip/PGCert): Use AI to produce artworks like images, poetry, and videos, and organize a virtual symposium.
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (MSc/PGDip/PGCert): Dive into natural language processing and machine learning, with a focus on ethics and critical analysis.
- Psychology (MA/MSc/PGDip/PGCert): Understand human behavior to meet growing demand in an AI-driven world.
- Children’s Literature (MA/PGDip/PGCert): Taught by celebrated author Michael Rosen, combining creative and critical approaches.
- Foundation in Computer Science: Build skills from scratch for careers in software development, data analysis, and cybersecurity.
Learning Experience
Students benefit from a human-centred digital pedagogy with tools like Panopto for recorded lectures and Turnitin for AI detection. The Goal team (Goldsmiths Online and Adaptable Learning) creates cloud-based spaces for reflection and discussion. As Michael Rosen notes, “The best part is there’s no intimidation – nobody’s saying, ‘Why didn’t you know that?’”
Career Impact
Goldsmiths was ranked the UK’s leading university for academic progression in the 2026 Guardian University Guide. These courses place students in an enviable position for roles in big tech and creative industries, especially in the AI market projected to reach £1tn in the UK by 2035.
“People will come away thinking the future isn’t written,” says Dr Rachel Falconer, course designer. “The creative edge has always been in the storytelling. AI just raises the stakes.”
