NSCG's Innovative Approach to National Careers Week 2026

Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) is making waves in career education by taking their outreach program on the road in a 42-foot American school bus during National Careers Week 2026. This creative initiative is designed to bring career guidance directly to students in a memorable and engaging way.

Bringing Careers Advice Directly to Schools

From March 2nd to 6th, the NSCG Schools Liaison Team traveled across three counties, visiting nearly 20 high schools aboard their iconic 'big yellow bus'. The team was joined by staff from various curriculum areas who introduced students to diverse career paths—including some they might not have previously considered.

Georgina Manifold, Senior Schools Liaison Officer at NSCG, explained: "National Careers Week is a fantastic opportunity to connect with young people and help them start thinking about their future. Taking the bus out to schools allows us to bring careers advice directly to students in a fun, engaging way."

Hands-On Learning Experiences

On board the bus, students participated in:

  • Hands-on activities and skills-based challenges
  • Interactive quizzes and competitions
  • Q&A sessions with industry professionals

These experiences helped students learn more about themselves while encouraging them to explore potential career paths that align with their interests and strengths.

Spotlight on Alumni Success Stories

As part of their celebrations, NSCG highlighted the journeys of their successful alumni. One notable example is Abz Ayinla, a former Level 3 Business student who launched his career with an apprenticeship in Procurement and Supplies at One Lancashire and South Cumbria, supporting services for North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Connecting with the Wider Educational Community

National Careers Week coincides with Colleges Week, an initiative run by the Association of Colleges that celebrates the impact colleges have in their local communities and across the country.

Across social media, NSCG has been sharing stories about college life, including updates from their Academy of Sport, which has secured a place in the top 10 of the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport Points Competition as they prepare for the National Championships in April.
