A growing aircraft painting company, Airbourne Colours, has made a groundbreaking commitment to guarantee well-paid jobs to all 24 trainees completing their course at Teesside Airport. This initiative marks a significant step in addressing the high demand from international clients and airlines, with the company planning to expand its operations this year.
Founder and CEO Steven Darbyshire has pledged job offers upon completion of a 21-month training course, offering starting salaries of £35,000, with the potential to earn up to £45,000 through overtime. This commitment not only meets industry demand but also provides local talent with lucrative career opportunities in aviation.
The training program, a collaboration between Hartlepool College of Further Education and Airbourne Colours, was initially funded by the Tees Valley Combined Authority. It includes an eight-week practical training segment at the Airbourne Colours facility, leading to an internationally recognized SAE AS7489 certification.
Trainees like Craig Devon and Josephine Key have shared their excitement about transitioning into this hands-on career, highlighting the program's role in offering sustainable employment rather than temporary positions.
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen and Councillor Lisa Evans have praised the initiative for its focus on creating high-quality, sustainable jobs and supporting regional workforce development. Airbourne Colours' £6.5m investment in Teesside Airport underscores its commitment to the aviation industry's future in the North East.
Employers interested in similar bespoke skills training can explore opportunities through the TVCA Workforce & Skills program.
