Working Wales, the free careers advice and guidance service funded by the Welsh Government, has celebrated a significant achievement by supporting its 200,000th customer. This milestone highlights the service's impact on individuals and the Welsh economy.
James's Journey from Television to Events Management
James, a 27-year-old from Wrexham, sought guidance after five years in television. Unsure of his next steps, he wanted a career that utilized his skills differently. With the help of adviser Laura at the Careers Wales centre in Wrexham, James identified his transferable skills from organizing events for a vintage machinery club. This led him to secure a role as an events assistant at the Llangollen Railway Trust.
"Laura helped me to see my potential and boost my confidence," James said. "I’d really recommend Careers Wales."
Pauline's Path to New Opportunities
The 200,000th customer, Pauline Smith from Cardiff, faced a career crossroads after voluntary redundancy from radio production. Considering freelancing or yoga teaching, Pauline was guided through the ReAct+ scheme by adviser Gareth Richards. This Welsh Government programme offers tailored support for training and costs, helping Pauline regain confidence in her abilities.
"Everybody has something to offer when they walk through those doors – it’s just finding out what that is and how confident they are in those," Pauline reflected.
A Service Making a Difference
Nikki Lawrence, chief executive of Careers Wales, emphasized the service's role:
"Reaching our 200,000th customer is a major milestone for Working Wales and a clear reflection of the impact we’re having on individuals and the wider Welsh economy."
Working Wales provides personalized support to anyone aged 16 and over, assisting with career choices, redundancy, retraining, or changes. Services are accessible online, by phone, and face-to-face across Wales.
