Compliance Assistant

We are working with a leading law firm to hire a Compliance Assistant for their Birmingham office. In this role you will take ownership of the client and entity onboarding process, setting up new clients and matters within the case management system while fulfilling all regulatory and compliance requirements.

Applicants must be happy to work full-time on-site in the Birmingham office for the first 6 months, after which hybrid working will be available.

The firm is looking for an organised individual with previous experience in a similar compliance role, ideally gained within a law firm. Candidates must possess strong attention to detail, excellent time-management abilities, and confident communication skills to handle queries and collaborate effectively across the organisation. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive, hands-on approach, proficiency with legal systems (Partner for Windows would be beneficial), and the confidence to take full ownership of operational processes.

The responsibilities will include:

• Assisting fee earners with new client creation and the accurate setup of matters and entities within the case management system.
• Performing initial conflict checks and conducting complete anti-money laundering and identity verification procedures.
• Carrying out national and international background searches to support due diligence requirements.
• Maintaining clear, precise records and producing comprehensive operational guidance for onboarding procedures where required.
• Tracking active tasks, chasing outstanding documentation, and ensuring all actions are completed to meet strict deadlines.
• Responding promptly to internal and client inquiries while proactively identifying opportunities to refine and improve workflows.
